For the last few months, I have been liaising with individuals involved in the Welland Valley Rail project which aims to use old railway lines to connect Kettering-Corby-Luffenham-Stamford-Peterborough-Whittlesey-March-Wisbech by rail. The group are in the process of submitting a bid to the Department for Transport to try and get this project off the ground and the other week a meeting was held to discuss the proposals further. We are already seeing our train services to and from Corby and London going from hourly to half-hourly as of May and if we could pull this off too, it would be another big boost for our local rail services!
