Every child deserves a world-class education suited to their needs to help them reach their potential, and so I’m delighted that we’ve announced a record £850 million cash boost for local councils to deliver more special needs places - responding very directly to local needs that I have been raising with the Government alongside Corby & East Northamptonshire parents. This funding will help to deliver an extra 60,000 new places since 2010 for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and in alternative provision (AP). This also comes alongside £1.8 billion for refurbishing school buildings, ensuring facilities are fit for the future. Here in North Northamptonshire, we’ll be receiving over £6 million as part of this funding boost, which I know will make a huge difference in creating more good quality SEN places. Now, I will be following up with the leadership of the local authority to ensure that it helps to deliver the biggest positive impact possible for our local young people to get on and achieve their potential.
