I was pleased to attend the Culture, Media and Sport Committee in my role as Minister for Legal Migration and the Border, to discuss how the Home Office is working with other parts of government to promote Britain abroad and how we are contributing to Britain’s role as a leading global tourist destination, especially given that our tourist numbers have very nearly been restored to pre-pandemic levels, and we of course wish to build on them. Some interesting points were raised, including how the Home Office is maintaining a balance between ensuring our borders are secure, and the ease of entry for visitors by implementing greater automated technology, which will ultimately continue to boost our economy, aided particularly by the introduction of the new cutting-edge Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) scheme. We also debated the issue of jobs in the tourism and hospitality sectors and the need for a better balance in meeting their needs, with a real drive on domestic employment to fill vacancies through the Government's ambitious 'Back to Work Plan'. This cross-governmental work is important and I’m excited to be a part of it. You can watch the session in full, here: http://tinyurl.com/yfk33t9s.
