I was pleased to recently open the Opposition Day debate for the Government in my role as Minister of State for Legal Migration and the Border. I set out our stance on various key points, including the need to continue to deliver on the Government's comprehensive plan to tackle illegal migration, which is delivering results, with Channel crossings via small boats down by over a third last year and Albanian arrivals down by over 90%. The debate focussed on the Rwanda policy in particular, as well as ongoing progress in closing asylum seeker hotels and handing them back to their proper uses in communities across the country, as well as the steps we are taking to disrupt and stop the evil criminal gangs from profiteering from dangerous and illegal boat crossings. I know that preventing illegal migration into this country is a huge priority for local people and as a Government we will continue to see through our plan to prevent it.
