I recently met with representatives from England’s Economic Heartland to discuss transport connectivity on our rail and highways networks across Northamptonshire, and how we might continue to work to improve these in partnership with North Northamptonshire Council, building on the successes of recent years, including the Chowns Mill Roundabout upgrade, the electrification of the train line between Corby and London, as well as the Corby Link Road, all of which have been massive investments secured. I raised several key issues of understandable local concern, about which I have had contact from local people in recent months, including in relation to safety on the A43, the A45 and the A605, as well as the need for improvements to the train rolling-stock serving our line and the potential of greater northbound services. Some interesting points were made, and I look forward to meeting with them again in future to help move these issues forward, not least as this conversation was designed to help inform their work in drawing up the latest regional transport priorities to inform the next generation of investment strategy decisions at a national level. I shall keep pushing.
