I was pleased to meet with Andrew Campbell, Chief Executive of the Brooke Weston Trust, who oversee a number of schools across Corby and East Northamptonshire, including Brooke Weston Academy. It was very interesting to hear about the issues facing our local schools first-hand, including changes made to the OFSTED inspection regime, funding for education trusts, and how safeguarding, a vital area, can be further improved, so that all of our local young people will receive the best, safest, start to their education. There is also plenty of progress being made, with Brooke Weston continuing its fantastic work with its secondary and sixth-form students amidst its ‘Outstanding’ OFSTED rating, and recently holding a careers fair involving some fantastic local businesses and organisations to showcase the range of career pathways available to students. I have some very useful insights from the meeting to feed back to Ministers at the Department for Education, and I look forward to continuing to work with them in future, as we work collectively to ensure the highest possible standards and expand opportunity for local young people.
