I have always been clear that coercive abuse, intimidation and unpleasantness has no place in our society and engaging in the course of political debate should be no different. Abuse of any kind, including verbal and online, not only impacts an individual, but also their family, colleagues, and the future pipeline of politicians - on all sides - who, locally and nationally, look to be incredibly talented and should not be discouraged from getting involved in politics. It is very welcome news then, that the Jo Cox Foundation has launched the ‘Civility Commission’ to help tackle this issue, in memory of our wonderful colleague who stood for, and represented, exactly that.
