As part of World Book Day, I was delighted to attend a parliamentary event to celebrate the books that have been chosen this year. Every year, World Book Day curates a list of bespoke £1 books for children and young people across the UK and Ireland, which they can then choose from for free at their local bookshop using their £1 World Book Day token.
The campaign encourages parents and carers everywhere to read and share stories with their children for ten minutes every day. The aim is to inspire new reading habits in both children and adults and to bring back reading for pleasure as a national pastime. I well remember the excitement of the day growing up and the rush to go and use my token and so I am delighted to see this initiative still going strong and the important message that underpins it - children and young people benefit enormously from reading and we should do all we can to help support and encourage it!
