As the previous Minister for Disabled People at the Department for Work & Pensions, I announced the draft Disability Action Plan and consultation back in July of last year, sharing the Government’s proposals for twelve areas where we felt that we could take immediate action to improve disabled people's everyday lives, and to help lay the foundations for longer term, impactful change. I’m incredibly proud then, that the final Disability Action Plan has now been launched, revealing thirty-two steps to make the UK a leader in better supporting disabled people to live life to the fullest, find and stay in meaningful employment, and thrive - and importantly, taking action in so many priority areas. The plan was rightly shaped by responses from those who it is designed to support, with over 1,300 disabled people sharing their valuable views and experiences. This is really fantastic to see, and my thanks go to all those who responded and worked on this throughout the year in the Disability Unit, as well as my colleague, Mims Davies MP, for carrying this vital work forward as the new Minister for Disabled People. I very much look forward to seeing these steps rolled out and to seeing the positive impact that they will undoubtedly have for my constituents locally and for people further afield.
