I was really pleased to get involved in an Eco-Day hosted by the Northamptonshire RAIN Team, in partnership with North Northamptonshire Council’s Grounds Maintenance Team, at Oakley Vale recently, to learn more about their ambition to create a ‘tiny forest’ on a small green space in Oakley Vale. There were Scouts, local residents and rangers helping to plant the trees, with forest school activities and other information available about natural flood defences. They also talked me through some of the ongoing work taking place to improve the flooding risk situation along the Harpers Brook, with real investment behind it, that I have written about previously, and which is particularly of interest to Brigstock residents, whom I continue to work with on this issue and I am pleased that progress is being made. Ultimately, we have so much to be thankful for locally in the way of our beautiful green spaces and rural areas and we must be aware of the impact flooding can have and what we can do to prevent the devastating impacts it can have. A really great project and very heartening to see so many passionate people from across the community getting involved!
