I was glad to be back on BBC Politics East, to discuss the Government’s recent net-migration announcement and our plans to quickly reduce inflows by 300,000, not least by better encouraging domestic employment in the first instance, rather than resorting to immigration to meet skills needs. I was also able to set out the strong progress we are making to reduce illegal migration - with Channel crossings down by over a third last year on 2022 and Albanian arrivals down by over 90%. Our plan is working and we will continue to build on it. It was also good to touch on other key topics, including recent high street bank closures, which we know are hugely concerning to the elderly in particular – we know many still rely on this service and I’m pleased that new legislation has been brought in to guarantee access to cash. We also discussed issues surrounding making driving lessons and tests more accessible for disabled people and I look forward to assisting the driving instructor included in the show in facilitating contact with Motability to see what can be done here. Always a good debate to be had – thanks for having me! You can watch the programme in full, here: http://tinyurl.com/3d46zrxh
