It was a pleasure to attend a fantastic reimagined youth production of ‘First Encounters: Romeo & Juliet’ by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), at the Core at Corby Cube recently, and to meet some representatives from the RSC to hear about how they are making Shakespeare more accessible to young people and relevant to a whole new generation of theatregoers. This is commendable work – Shakespeare remains a huge part of our culture, and his work should be accessible to all, regardless of age and background. The young performers from our community were really brilliant, acting out fresh and exciting twists to the plot, with important underlying messages relevant to today, and I’m sure they have bright futures ahead of them, with great onstage experiences gained!
