I recently took through a Statutory Instrument that relates to the UK’s exit from the European Union and the retained provisions which granted European Economic Area and Swiss citizens the right to access benefits, services and educational entitlements on the same basis as UK nationals if their presence in the UK was in the exercise of specific freedom of movement rights. The SI does not introduce a change in policy for any group of EEA or Swiss nationals in the UK, but simply tidies up the UK statute book to ensure that it functions effectively and with legal clarity, given our status now outside of the EU.
