I was really pleased to see so many local people and businesses at the Cube in Corby for an event promoting disability confidence in the workplace, held in conjunction with North Northamptonshire Council and the Department for Work & Pensions locally. Encouraging employers to become Disability Confident is a key mission for me in my work in Government - and is so important locally too, as it opens up a wealth of opportunities for employers and potential employees; particularly crucial here in our local area as we seek to fill roles in what has been a tight labour market for some time, but also in improving the health and wellbeing of individuals and improving life chances for people.
It was great to hear how so many local people are already being supported in the workplace and to see the really positive link-ups and networks being forged as part of the event, that has hopefully led, and will continue to lead to, more high quality employment opportunities for local residents and more joined-up efforts to support more people into work, unlocking their aspirations and harnessing their potential. Thank you to all involved in making it happen - it is a real pleasure to support you in this important work.
