I am pleased that Northamptonshire is set to benefit from a share of up to £53 million to improve housing support for drug and alcohol recovery. The Department of Health and Social Care have outlined that the Housing Support Grant is dedicated funding to test the impact of targeted housing support interventions on recovery outcomes for people in drug and alcohol treatment. This approach will help to test what types of housing support are most effective to meet different local needs in all regions of England. This will support a range of projects over the next three years, such as training to help those dealing with trauma, women’s-only housing for those who have experienced domestic violence, and support for those with cognitive impairments due to acquired brain injury. It strengthens the Government’s commitment to reducing drug use, and improving treatment outcomes, as part of our 10-year drug strategy.
I very much welcome that £1.4 million will be made available for housing support for people in drug and alcohol treatment here in Northamptonshire, through a range of programmes, including the development of a new service to ensure housing advice and support is embedded within drug and alcohol services to prevent homelessness and support people into treatment.
