I'm really proud that we've landed the new Corby Sixth Form College in the town centre - a nearly £10 million project, and a key part of the Government's 'Corby Town Deal' investment, which I campaigned hard to secure. It was great to be taken round the new first-class facilities on Friday morning as the finishing touches were made - and welcomely they are in a regenerated town centre building, with green credentials at the forefront. I also really enjoyed meeting some of the teaching staff and hearing more about the wide range of courses set to be on offer, including extra support to students in achieving higher GCSE grades, had they just missed out first time around. There is also a desire to work closely with the business community locally to help ensure our educational offer is providing the skills our local economy needs and great exciting careers for our young people - this can only be a good thing and is something I intend to support on an ongoing basis, by way of helping to facilitate meaningful engagement and connections, to make sure this new provision has the biggest positive impact possible long-term for our community. I also just wanted to say 'thank you' to all those involved in getting the project delivered, including North Northamptonshire Council, Bedford College and all those who serve on the Corby Town Deal Board. And this is just the start of these projects coming to fruition, bringing about the next wave of welcome regeneration in our town. All that is left to say is good luck to all the staff in their new roles and to all the new learners who started today in these amazing facilities!
