I recently appeared before the Justice Select Committee for pre-legislative scrutiny of the Government's draft Victims’ Bill. This exciting new legislation has the key aims of amplifying victims’ voices; making sure that victims are at the heart of the criminal justice system; improving support for victims to cope and recover from the impact of crime; and strengthening transparency and oversight of the criminal justice agencies, at both the local and national level, so that victims’ experiences support them to engage, and remain engaged with, the criminal justice system. These are crucial reforms and it was very useful to hear the committee’s views and answer its questions.
