The 5th March was World Book Day! I attended an event in Parliament to offer my support for World Book Day’s national ‘Share a Story’ campaign, encouraging parents and carers to ‘share a story’ and read with their children for ten minutes a day. This is a great way to promote the magic of books, the power of imagination and the importance of reading. Every child in Corby & East Northamptonshire will be given a £1 book token for World Book Day, which they can take to a bookshop or supermarket to get their free World Book Day book (or £1 off any full price book that takes their fancy). I really hope that parents, grandparents, and other carers, will take the time to read with their children, not just today, but throughout the year. Sharing stories for just ten minutes a day has long-lasting effects on a child’s future. I cannot encourage it enough - not least because of so many happy childhood reading memories of my own!
