I was pleased to attend a drop-in for the Summer Reading Challenge, which encourages children aged 4-11 to read six library books during their summer holiday. Reading levels amongst children can drop during the summer holidays if children don’t have regular access to books, but the Summer Reading Challenge has been really successful in encouraging millions of children to take up the challenge! This year’s theme is ‘Space Chase’, inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing, and I would really encourage children and families to get involved!
