It is very welcome that extra money is being provided for communities in the East Midlands, through the newly unveiled Stronger Towns Fund. In particular, there is a strong desire to see a new Enterprise Zone in the town, not least because the last one, under the Conservative Government in the 1980s, was such a success. I therefore asked the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities & Local Government if Stronger Towns Fund money would be made available to support such projects. The Secretary of State said that he recognises my ambition for Corby, and for an Enterprise Zone like the one previously. He further said he would be happy to discuss the details of this - an offer I intend to pursue. He went on to say that they want towns to feel able to come forward with bids, and they are looking into the various transformative services, skills and jobs that will feature in the new economy that they want to create, along with a sense of ambition for growing enterprise and business. He stated that he was sure that this fund can offer that potential to Corby, and to other towns throughout the country.
