In addition to my recent meeting with the Police Federation, I also attended a drop-in held by the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO). NARPO represents nearly 90,000 former police officers of all ranks, together with their widows, widowers and former partners. At present, they are focusing particularly on the rules relating to the pensions received by partners of deceased former police officers, and campaigning for a consistent approach to be taken on this across the United Kingdom, given the slightly different rules in place in England and Wales, compared with Scotland and Northern Ireland – a really interesting discussion, which I am keen to follow closely given the representations I have received from people affected in our area, and I will support the campaign in any way I can.
