Policing is a very high priority on the doorstep locally and I am delighted that the Prime Minister has made the important commitment to increase police officer numbers by 20,000, with recruitment starting straight away. Furthermore, I have also been raising the need for an urgent response facility to be located in Corby with the Police & Crime Commissioner and senior Northamptonshire Police officers for months. I was therefore delighted to hear earlier this week that a deal has now been agreed to locate a new policing base at the Cube.
This is good news for Corby residents who want to feel safe on our streets and at home, along with the ongoing recruitment of 200 extra police officers locally, which will no doubt be bolstered further by the recruitment of the 20,000 more officers nationally, of which Corby & East Northamptonshire must see its fair share.
This Government, and I as your local MP, are committed to tackling crime and maintaining law and order and I believe that a greater frontline policing presence - catching criminals and deterring crime – is exactly the right way to make progress on this priority issue. Having had these issues regularly raised with me on the doorstep in recent months, and having campaigned strongly on them both locally and nationally, I am delighted that action is being taken.
