I was very disappointed at the BBC’s recent decision to discontinue the concessionary TV licence for over-75s. As a generation who have worked hard all their lives, contributed to our society and our communities and who served their country during the Second World War, I believe our over-75s deserve better. Not least because the BBC has prioritised high salaries for executives and celebrity broadcasters over a long-standing commitment to our over-75s, which they agreed to take on. I will continue to raise this issue with the BBC and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport and I very much hope that common sense will prevail and a solution found.
