The Leyland Bridge, over the main railway line between Wellingborough and St Pancras International, was meant to have been re-installed by mid-April 2019 - however, it has become apparent in recent weeks that no replacement is to be built, and many local people have been in touch to express their understandable concern. Instead, as it stands, a new road and bridge will be built in a different location, at some point in the future. This has raised many concerns, not least because the bridge is essential for the continuing economic success of the Leyland Industrial Estate, and particularly for residents in Irthlingborough who want to get to Wellingborough and vice versa. Whilst the bridge is technically in the Wellingborough constituency, this issue undoubtedly affects people from both constituencies and as such, I have taken this matter up through a joint letter with Peter Bone MP, my colleague in the Wellingborough constituency, with the Secretary of State for Transport, asking for his thoughts on the matter. We have specifically asked if he could ascertain and explain how a temporary closure has become a permanent closure, and have urged that a solution be found urgently, and the bridge reinstated. You can see the letter we wrote below, and residents can be assured we will continue to keep the pressure up on this. You can find a full version of our letter, below.
