It was good to catch-up with Inspector Scott Little regarding policing matters in Corby. Further to my earlier recent update, which you can find here: https://www.votepursglove.co.uk/news/local-developments-policing, it was very useful to gain a further update from him on a couple of pressing issues, including antisocial behaviour in the town centre and progress towards locating an urgent response capability in the town.
On the issue of the antisocial behaviour, I was pleased to hear of some of the cross-agency measures being put in place to address this and Inspector Little has promised to provide me with a written update following our meeting, that I will be sure to share once I have it. Suffice to say, however, these concerns are being taken incredibly seriously and it was reassuring to hear of the joined-up work that is being done to address these issues.
On the issue of the urgent response capability being based in the town, very welcomely, he confirmed that as reported in the local media last week, discussions are taking place about locating this at the Cube - an ideal venue given its town centre location, and something which would likely be helpful in addressing and deterring the antisocial behaviour issues mentioned above. I shall certainly provide further updates on this as I have them, given this is an issue I have been following closely, and have been pressing hard for a solution to be found.
We also touched on the fact that locally, 200 more police officers are being recruited, which will no doubt help to boost frontline response in our area, whilst I hope that will be further boosted if Boris Johnson becomes Prime Minister, given his commitment to recruit an extra 20,000 police officers nationally, and we would expect our fair share of those to be made available to us here in Northamptonshire.
Finally, I would just make the point that it is vital that any issues or concerns you might have about policing matters and crime are reported to the police - if they don’t know about them, they simply cannot address them, and that intelligence is so important in improving response and ensuring justice is delivered.
As ever, this was a very useful meeting - it was good to share information and hear about policing developments in the town and I will be sure to provide further updates on this work as I have them.
