I recently had my latest catch-up meeting with Janine McKinney, Chief Crown Prosecutor for the East Midlands, to talk about developments at the Crown Prosecution Service. It is always really useful to catch-up and to discuss new regional initiatives that aim to improve the system and the way that local people interact with it - particularly in terms of driving up prosecutions for rape and sexual violence offences. As a Minister at the Ministry of Justice, I have a significant role in improving the criminal justice system nationally, so that it is smoother and more effective for all who engage with it, but I also rightly and understandably take a strong interest in ensuring local improvement too on an ongoing basis.
