Today, along with local Conservative councillors and the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, I launched the 'Free Car Parking - More Car Parking Campaign', here in Corby.
Currently, in the East Northamptonshire part of the constituency, which is controlled by a Conservative Council, there is free car parking, but here in Corby, council car parking is charged for. Clearly, that is not in the interests of local businesses, the local economy, or local people. In fact, local people regularly remind me that car parking used to be free in Corby.
The policy isn't, however, just about reinstating free car parking, it is also about delivering additional free car parking spaces - in order to meet local demand. So, if a Conservative council is elected in Corby next year, it will deliver free car parking in council owned spaces and draw up plans to create additional new free bays.
Essentially, we believe you shouldn't have to pay to shop locally.
