World Book Day

It was great to attend a reception to celebrate the impact of World Book Day, which was held this year on the 7th March 2019, including in schools across our area.

Summer Reading Challenge

I was pleased to attend a drop-in for the Summer Reading Challenge, which encourages children aged 4-11 to read six library books during their summer holiday.

‘UK Steel Charter’ event:

I signed the ‘UK Steel Charter’, alongside the Minister, Andrew Stephenson MP, who signed it on behalf of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO) drop-in:

In addition to my recent meeting with the Police Federation, I also attended a drop-in held by the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO). NARPO represents nearly 90,000 former police officers of all ranks, together with their widows, widowers and former partners.

Police Federation meeting:

I was pleased to meet with the Police Federation recently to discuss some of the challenges and issues our frontline police officers face in their daily work.

This year’s Great British Spring Clean:

Frustratingly, we waste roughly £1 billion a year of taxpayers’ money on clearing up litter - money which would be much better spent on our schools, NHS, and having more police out on the beat, catching criminals and deterring crime.
